They rent the apartment on the ground floor at 135 Esseghem Street in Jette.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">1954<\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ren\u00e9 and Georgette Magritte leave the apartment in May 1954. The couple moves to 207 Lambermont Avenue in Schaerbeek.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">1954 \u2013 1993<\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Three more tenants will rent the apartment on the ground floor of 135 Esseghemstreet.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">1967<\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Death of Ren\u00e9 Magritte in Mimosas Street in Schaerbeek. He&rsquo;s buried at the cemetery of Schaerbeek.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">1976<\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Andr\u00e9 Garitte meets Georgette Magritte in Mimosas Street in Schaerbeek. He will regularly meet her and her friends Louis Scutenaire, Ir\u00e8ne Hamoir and collect memories about Magritte and the Belgian group of Surrealists.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">1986<\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Georgette Magritte dies. Their furniture and other belongings are sold at an auction at Sotheby&rsquo;s and in the Palace of Fine Arts.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">1992<\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Through a recent photograph, Andr\u00e9 Garitte discovers that the house at 135 Esseghem Street still exists.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">1993<\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Creation of the NGO &lsquo;Mus\u00e9e Ren\u00e9 Magritte&rsquo; and purchase of the painter&rsquo;s house: the aim is to open a biographical museum and restore the painter&rsquo;s apartment.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">1993 \u2013 1999<\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After 6 years of renovation, the Ren\u00e9 Magritte Museum is officially opened, on July 5, 1999.
